Cathedral Christ Church
Cathedral Christ Church is one of the finest historic buildings of Dublin, it is located in the oldest part of the city, at the end of Dame Street and the beginning of Patrick Street. This building dates back to 1030 although the present structure dates just from 1871 when was done its restoration in Victorian times, at the expense of the whiskey distiller Henry Roe, who spent over 230 000 pounds (over 26 million euro nowadays) to save the cathedral. Mr. Roe also built the Synod Hall, used today for an exhibition on medieval Dublin called Dublinia. Only the crypt, the transepts and a few other portions dates from medieval times. Among the Cathedral highlights are the magnificent stonework and graceful pointed arches with delicately chiseled supporting columns. This is the mother church for the Diocese of Dublin and Glendalaough of the Church of Ireland.
